In February 2024, Upper Sioux Agency State Park closed to the public and park ownership officially was transferred without cost to the Upper Sioux Community by the Minnesota DNR, per legislative directive.
Within the approved legislation, the DNR was granted around $5 million to buy either new land for a future park or fund other regional outdoor recreation opportunities – replacement options.
