Illinois pheasant hunters sensed something was awry in late November when Des Plaines State Fish and Wildlife Area began scaling back the number of permits it issued for the Controlled Pheasant Hunting program.
Many guessed it had something to do with a shortage of birds. That assumption was confirmed on Dec. 4 when DNR announced a reduction in permits for the rest of the 2024 season, which means some northern Illinois sites will have reduced permits available.
