The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) pilot program provides an incentive for hunters to use non-toxic bullets for deer hunting and bird shot for upland hunting. Martha Williams, USFWS director, said that while the USFWS is committed to allowing access to refuges, it also wants to minimize the exposure of wildlife to lead.

Urban-rural Pheasants Forever partnership connects city and country to build tomorrow’s hunters

When Dave Scherf took over as president of Minnesota’s Metro Area Chapter of Pheasants Forever in 2010, he and the board started planning what they thought was the best way to raise money and activate members: a banquet. They got gun manufacturers to donate firearms, they invited veterinarians to have booths in the exhibit space, they rented the Horse and Hunt Club’s Prior Lake banquet room, and they booked Ron Schara to emcee. Then only 100 people showed up.

Long-term study sheds new light on factors impacting Pennsylvania’s forest regrowth

New findings from long-term research underscore the challenges managers face when trying to conserve Penn’s Woods.
The seven-year study, conducted by a team of researchers from Penn State, the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is the first to simultaneously assess how deer browsing, soil nutrients and competing vegetation affect tree regeneration in Keystone State forests.
