Wisconsin Natural Resources Board set to meet in Madison Oct. 23

The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board (NRB) will meet in-person at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 in meeting room G09, State Natural Resources Building (GEF 2), 101 South Webster Street, Madison, to consider proposed rulemaking documents.

Illinois DNR’s approach to managing CWD will change in 2025

The Illinois DNR’s fight against CWD in the state’s deer herd is about to undergo a swift change of direction, just as an annual report on the disease reveals a dramatic spike in positive cases and the addition of two new counties with infected whitetails.
Prevalence rates of the disease in Fiscal Year 2024 – the period between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024 – was the highest observed in the history of DNR’s program.

How will spring flooding impact Iowa’s pheasant season? A look around the state ahead of opener

Habitat and weather are the two factors often tied to the pheasant population, and each year the Iowa DNR’s August Roadside Count data reflects those two variables.
Since 1962, the Iowa DNR has conducted the August Roadside Survey, generating data from approximately 225, 30-mile routes on Iowa’s upland game: ring-necked pheasants, bobwhite quail, gray partridge, cottontail rabbits and white-tailed jackrabbits. After a relatively mild winter with below average snowfall, the pheasant population seemed to be heading toward another bird increase in 2024.
