Ohio Outdoor News writer lauded for kids fishing event participation

Perry County Sheriff William R. Barker recently took time to recognize an Ohio Outdoor News contributing writer for his continued efforts to support youth fishing.

Ohio Mixed Bag: Cincinnati Zoo to receive federal money to offset COVID-19

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums recently announced more than $4.5 million in reimbursement funding under the American Rescue Plan Endangered Species COVID-19 Relief program. The funds will be distributed among 26 facilities for costs related to species care during the pandemic.

Ohio Insider: Still quiet on the EHD front so far

A couple of columns back, I wrote about the incidence of epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) in deer in the Buckeye State.
At that time, a couple of deer were out for testing for the possibility of EHD. Checking in with Mike Tonkovich, the ODNR Division of Wildlife’s deer program administrator, reveals that there has been just one case of confirmed EHD in deer this summer with that specimen coming from Franklin County in Central Ohio.
