Black bears in New York State don’t always get a lot of attention from hunters. In fact, most of the harvest comes from whitetail hunters who encounter a bruin while pursuing deer and take advantage of the opportunity.
That said, there is a growing number of sportsmen and women interested in focusing on bear hunting, and as the biggest of the state’s big-game animals continues to expand its range, more opportunities are arising to take a black bear in the fall.
