I’ve been keeping my ear to the ground, vis-a-vis the license fee increase discussion, and all I’ve heard so far is… crickets.
This is not unusual as, I’m told, the folks involved are a fair distance from putting together an actual proposal and there’s no sense in angering up the blood before it’s necessary. Still, when these things happen, you often see a few trial balloons floated. But so far, none yet.
I am told there is a group within the Michigan Department of Natural Resources that is pretty convinced that our current model – funding game, fish and much of law enforcement through user fees – is irreparably broken.
