James targets NRA leadership as bench trial resumes

The second phase of a trial in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ civil lawsuit against the NRA and former top executives is under way.
Manhattan Judge Joel Cohen is to decide remaining issues in the case that began July 15, including whether former chief executive Wayne LaPierre and ex-general counsel John Frazer should be barred from charitable organizations in the state.

Here’s how to beat the mid-summer bass lull

During late May and through pretty much all of June, bass-fishing action can be expected from dark to dark. As the middle of the summer settles in, that all seems to change.

Northern Wisconsin’s deer herd: Forest and Florence counties share disparate habitats, hunter success

A proposal that seems to be gaining momentum in Wisconsin is a return to the old deer management units system, which was in place before county-based management was instituted after Dr. James Kroll’s 2012 Deer Trustee Report.
Proponents believe the old “numbered” unit system allowed deer to be better managed according to habitat, whereas the current county system is too broad. There are perhaps no greater examples of the reasoning to return to the previous unit system than Forest and Florence counties in northeastern Wisconsin.

Robust redear sunfish are moving the needle in Michigan panfishing

But when Chris Freiburger and I met up for a couple of hours of worm dunking recently, we chose a small Jackson County lake that has solid bluegill fishing, but also has a bonus attraction: redear sunfish. Redears are similar to ’gills with one additional characteristic: They generally get bigger – they‘re longer and more shouldery.
