3D versus Bull’s-eyes: Target choice matters leading up to hunting season

3D targets aren’t as common as block- or bag-style options, but they should be. Practicing on a target that realistically represents whatever game animal you plan to hunt is a great way to reinforce proper aim and execution. While they often aren’t as cheap or as portable as targets with bull’s-eyes, they are a valuable asset for off-season bowhunters looking to level up their shooting game. (Contributed photo)

While there are diehard bowhunters who shoot year-round, most folks don’t get serious about target practice until the middle of summer.
This is when whitetail bucks start showing their headgear in a meaningful way, and the reality that September is closer than it seems tends to sink in.
You’d be hard-pressed to make an argument that too many bowhunters over-practice in the pre-season, so any level of shooting is worthwhile. There is also the reality that the right kind of shooting goes a long way toward being truly efficient in the field.
