Wisconsin State Roundup: Some specific changes needed to better manage deer herd

Dean Bortz says going back to the numbered deer unit format would represent one big step in addressing the issues Wisconsin deer hunters and CDAC members currently battle. (File photo by Oak Duke)

Two quick thoughts about deer before we move onto other business here – the Wisconsin DNR needs to really get serious and moving on returning to the numeric/alpha deer management units we used prior to going to the county unit system.
Also, we need a remote viewing system set up in critical counties next spring so Natural Resources Board (NRB) members may view CDAC meetings in at least Bayfield and Oneida counties. We can add Iron, Price, Ashland, Douglas, Vilas, Sawyer, Florence, and Forest counties to that list if budget constraints allow.
