Those who live near and historically fished Shreve Lake before it was drained have reason for hope for the future.
Shreve Lake, in Wayne County in northeast Ohio, was the victim of an emergency drawdown in 2014 due to a problem at the dam.
“We do these dam inspections every so often … and you notice things,” said Curt Wagner, fish management supervisor for the ODNR Division of Wildlife in Akron. “We noticed water was seeping on the downstream side outside of the outlet pipe. It was tunneling outside the drain pipe, taken earthen dam with it. Over time, that can create a catastrophic failure.”
