The numbers are in and testing is completed in the chronic wasting disease (CWD) surveillance area in north-central Ohio with a total of 27 deer proving positive since the fall of 2023. That is out of 2,807 deer tested, according to Bob Ford, the ODNR’s wildlife management supervisor in northwest Ohio.
The numbers include two deer taken with special permits prior to the start of the 2023-24 archery season, 24 harvested during the hunting season, and one shot during a post-season targeted removal effort.
