Ohio Insider: The rebirth of the Cuyahoga River is a remarkable story

In late April, the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland was stocked with steelhead for the first time. This occasion marked the significant recovery in water quality for the urban river that famously caught fire in 1969 due to pollution. (Photo courtesy Travis Hartman/DOW)

A lot has been happening in the Ohio outdoor world over the past two weeks. If you would, please indulge me in sharing a few items of importance.
The story of the rebirth of sorts of the Cuyahoga is remarkable. From the time the Division of Wildlife decided last year that steelhead would be stocked into the river, the angling public has been looking forward to it with great intrigue. If the Cuyahoga turns out to be as hospitable to these fish as the other rivers in the steelhead program, it will be a great success story for the fishery.
