My Michigan elk hunt actually started back in the 1960s when I first applied for an elk permit. I applied for two years and then hunting was stopped due to poaching and low elk numbers.
Hunting resumed in 1984 when elk numbers were sustainable again. My hunting buddy and I began applying again in 1984. He passed away in 2019. Today, I am 80 years old and figured my time would run out before I drew a permit; however, I tried one more time.
