Preparation is half the fun when it comes to New York’s April 1 trout opener

Little gets us trout anglers revved up quite like the opening of trout season in New York.
If I stopped to list all of the trout streams, creeks, rivers, and lakes I’ve fished in New York State I’d use up my word count in the first paragraph. Suffice it to say that the spring trout season is one of my favorites, and with thanks to our venerable NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, we’re all lucky enough to be able to enjoy it year-round in many areas now.
