Minnesota Reader Stories: Restoring grandfather’s duck decoys conjure memories of past hunts

Many years ago, my grandpa took me aside at duck camp and handed me a few old and beat-up foam Herter’s diver decoys.
“These rode the waves many times, with me and your great grandpa hunting over them. Now, they’re yours,” he told me.

Vin T. Sparano: Incorporate the fine art of dead-sticking into your fishing tactics

Some of the biggest coyotes ever taken in Pennsylvania’s Mosquito Creek contest shot this year

The Mosquito Creek Sportsmen Club, in Clearfield County, Pa., recently finished its 33rd annual coyote hunt. For the first time in hunt history, the top three entries all weighed over 50 pounds.
With thousands of coyotes entered over the 32 previous hunts, only 10 topped 50 pounds. Mosquito Creek holds the largest and longest-running coyote contest in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania’s ATV trail connector extension gets mixed reviews

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will continue to operate a controversial ATV Regional Trail Connector in state forests in the Northern Tier at least through the 2025 riding season, expanding a pilot program that ended last year.
While it is welcome news to thousands of ATV enthusiasts who have purchased passes to use the trail connector, the program gets a thumbs-down from environmentalists who say it poses a threat to the health and peaceful ambiance of the forests.
