New York’s reservoir system dates back to the industrial age of the Nineteenth Century. This is a time when drinking water, navigation, the lumber industry, flood control and in some cases, hydro-power, were the driving forces behind dam construction. The result, of course, was countless man-made bodies of water that eventually doubled as recreational hubs.
