Minnesota DNR expands ways to use increased federal funding

Minnesota received $19.7 million in fiscal year 2021 from the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act. In FY 2022 and 2023, it increased significantly to $32.25 million and $34.4 million, respectively. The Minnesota DNR has received a substantial increase in Pittman-Robertson federal funding during the past two years. And with federal government clarification, the DNR is currently using annual payments to counties in lieu of taxes (paid on public lands – PILT) as PR matching dollars to put an additional $7 million annually into the state’s Game and Fish Fund.
