A group of more than 20 ice fishermen were rescued from an ice floe that broke off in Lake Erie on Jan. 22.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit, said the ice floe was about a half mile offshore of Ohio’s Catawba Island State Park.

There’s more bad news about chronic wasting disease (CWD) in Ohio, Mike Reynolds told state wildlife council members in January. Reynolds is administrator of wildlife management for the Ohio Division of Wildlife.
Based on current testing efforts, CWD is spreading within the Disease Surveillance Area (DSA) that encompasses all of Hardin, Marion, and Wyandot counties in the north-central part of the state, but also outside of the DSA.
