Christine Thomas: Remembering Tom Heberlein, a giant in natural resources research

“He was the guy I was most afraid of, but he turned out to be my champion,” I said to Pat Durkin the night I called him to reminisce about Tom Heberlein.
I had just heard that he had passed away. I knew Tom and Pat were friends and hunting buddies. I needed to talk. I did not know who else to call. Pat quoted me in his recent tribute to Tom. I thought that quote could use a bit of explanation. It also gave me an opening to provide my own tribute.
