Weather permitting, the ice of lakes in Minnesota that contain stream and lake trout will begin hosting trout anglers on Saturday, Jan. 13, when the trout season opens. The popularity of ice fishing for trout has grown in the metro area, while the northeast and southeast locations of the state have retained yearly traditions of excellent size and quantity in its bodies of water.
The season begins Dec. 30 for trout in lakes within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
