Minnesota lake projects allow connection to St. Louis River, providing more wildlife and fisheries habitat

Mud Lake is connected to the St. Louis River via a small inlet. The Minnesota DNR and its partners are working on adding depth to the lake’s bottom as well as building a bridge to allow more water flow from the river into the lake and vice versa. (Photo courtesy of Minnesota DNR)

It’s been over a decade of funding and projects in the St. Louis River Restoration Initiative, and the team members working on the project say they’re starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. With only three to four more projects left to complete (and about eight already completed), the Minnesota DNR and local citizens are excited to see the St. Louis River Estuary renewed.
