Here are some top new materials for cold-weather hunting

While Sitka certainly offers parkas and bibs to keep you toasty, their new Core Merino 330 Hoody is a layer that can be added to any warm weather apparel as a base layer on a sub-zero morning, or an outer layer on a cold afternoon. (Photo courtesy of Sitka Gear)

Staying warm can be one of the most important “tools” when hunting.

After all, if you head back to camp, there’s no chance of a harvest. Many brands have their own cures for beating cold from Berber/wool to merino wool, to heat retention synthetics to, well, you name it.

Read below for a few options to help keep you toasty this season.

Code of Silence

The new Zone7 Dialed In Parka from Code of Silence (COS) adapts to varying conditions for the hunter who is aggressive and on the move when needed, or when sitting back in comfort when hunting from a blind. This parka is constructed of new Berber/wool, and is dead quiet, exceptionally warm and provides ninja-like concealment. The combination of a WindSeal-TC3 internal barrier, 3X-Tricot lining and 90 grams of Windsulation in the body, makes the garment ideal for all-day sits in the fall and winter, but the shell is light enough for various layering strategies. Also featured is a three-piece drawstring peripheral vision hood, articulated sleeves, draw cord at the waist, side hand warmer pockets, upper rangefinder pocket and a user-friend stretch fleece cuff.

The Zone7’s Dialed In Bib was designed with advice from legendary cold-weather hunter Bill Winke to be the ultimate hunting lower. Like the COS Parka, the bib is made with Berber/wool, and is dead quiet, naturally dull in the surface and provides an incredible level of thermal protection. It’s versatile, being heavy enough for peak-of-the-rut hunting, but light enough for layering underneath.

Features include adjustable elastic suspenders with grip, zippered front, front hand warmer pockets, zippered closed thigh pockets, and full-length leg zippers to the hip for easy on/off over boots. Stop the wind and scent with WindSeal-TC3 and reversed anti-microbial 3X-Tricot throughout the entire garment.

ArticShield

One of ArcticShield’s answers to frigid temps is their Tundra 3-in-1 Parka and Bib which offers exclusive Retain heat-retention technology that locks heat in by capturing and returning up to 90% of body heat while at the same time acting as a barrier by deflecting the cold outside air.

The parka boasts a zip-out fleece vest with stand-up collar, zippered chest pocket, zippered hand warmer pockets and an adjustable draw cord bottom hem. A full-zip front with snap closure offers extra protection against the elements, while chest pockets and outer hand warmer pockets feature Aquaguard zippers to keep moisture out. An adjustable draw cord waist and bottom hem helps keep cold air out, while the articulated elbows allow for ease of movement.

The bib offers a three-way front pocket, which includes a side-entry hand warmer pocket, top-load cargo pocket with snap-closure storm flap and a security pocket with Aquaguard zippers to protect valued items. Articulated, padded knees, stretch side panels and X-style elastic suspenders with quick-release buckles provide comfort and ability to move, while the zippered sides and thigh-high two-way leg zippers, featuring a storm flap with snap closure, make pulling the bibs on and off a breeze. Additional features include zippered slash pockets and a zippered fly with storm flap.

Sitka

While Sitka certainly offers parkas and bibs to keep you toasty, their new Core Merino 330 Hoody is a layer that can be added to any warm weather apparel as a base layer on a sub-zero morning, or an outer layer on a cold afternoon.

It features Sitka’s warmest-weight merino wool to stay on stand longer on the coldest days. Their temperature-regulating merino wool has an exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio to keep you warmer with less bulk, and the contoured hood with a built-in facemask offers additional comfort and concealment. Merino wool also resists odor and their ArmorSpun merino wool is reinforced for improved durability. Excess moisture isn’t a problem thanks to an added synthetic interior that quickly moves sweat off skin to keep you dry and warm.
