‘Guidance’ in revised Wisconsin plan suggests room for 1,200 wolves

The Wisconsin DNR’s Aug. 1 release of its revised wolf plan tells the public the state has room for at least 1,200 timber wolves. That number is now ... an expectation. Or a guidance. Or in other words, about where the DNR expects to see the state’s wolf population hold going forward. That number is also a long way from a population goal of 350 wolves, or fewer, sought by the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation (WWF), Conservation Congress, and more than 25 county boards across northern Wisconsin.
