An agency with “hands in many pots,” the Illinois DNR not only maintains and manages hunting and fishing in the state, it also is in charge of state parks and regulates mines and minerals and oil and gas.
And then there are the historic sites and museums, an area that has put the agency in a rough spot with the Illinois Auditor General. According to the AG, an audit with an “adverse opinion” of DNR shows over three dozen findings, “including a lack of care for artifacts and problems with its service providers.”
