Outdoor Observations: Some positive outdoor items from Michigan’s budget, and cougar sightings in the U.P.

The Michigan Legislature last week approved a record $81.7 billion budget for fiscal year 2024 (Oct. 2023-Oct. 2024).
While natural resources didn’t get the same nod it got a year ago with tens of millions of dollars appropriated to the DNR Fisheries Division for hatchery upgrades, a new Great Lakes research vessel, and more, there were positive line items worth noting.
