Breaking News for

Sportsmen Since 1967

Three calls every late-season gobbler chaser should master

If you want to kill a late-season longbeard, you might have to buck traditional calling advice and really get after it. Enthusiastic yelping and cutting can be the ticket, but sometimes it’s not. When it isn’t, soft, subtle clucking can be enough to lure in hesitant longbeards. (Contributed photo)
Most turkey hunters know the basic calls, but they often don’t know how to use them effectively enough to lure in a tom once the season has passed its midpoint. By now, turkeys have heard enough of our talk to get a little call-shy. Couple this with the reality that the truly action-packed days of the early season are in the rearview mirror, and the challenge is real. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a good shot to have a killer hunt in May, however.
