‘Pawsitively’ connected: The shared love of dogs brings hunters together

The retriever club I belong to is neck-deep in planning its 35th anniversary “Spring Hunt Test.” Even though I still haven’t been able to bring myself to take on a new pup since the loss of my long-time retriever last spring, I still stay active in the retriever club.
My friends in the retriever club ( Retrievers Unlimited, HRC) understand that Willie was my heart dog – that one dog out of all the dogs you own that bonds with you in an indescribable way.

Creel survey details angler use, health of fishery on the Minnesota River

The results of last year’s Minnesota River angler creel survey – the first one conducted on the state’s third-longest river in 25 years – are in, and the findings will help Minnesota DNR Fisheries officials manage the meandering waterway for the foreseeable future.
Minnesota River anglers predominantly target channel catfish, flathead catfish, and walleyes, and the Minnesota River is an important shore-fishing resource.

CWD anchors discussion at Waupaca open house in Wisconsin

A response plan that includes more testing is in place now that chronic wasting disease (CWD) has turned up twice in Waupaca County’s wild white-tailed deer herd.

The fatal, infectious nervous system disease that kills deer, moose, elk, and reindeer turned out to be a major discussion topic April 3 during the county’s first spring hearing open house at Waupaca High School.
