Bird flu continues to be a growing concern

Most waterfowl hunters are aware that a new variant of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1), commonly called bird flu, emerged in late 2021. Since then, it has caused outbreaks around the world. More than 200 million birds have died or been culled, most of them in the United States or Europe.
The bottom line is that bird flu is a growing concern, and although it seems to have subsided over the past month or two, the worst of it almost certainly has not passed.

Statewide muskie and St. Croix River seasons up for vote in Wisconsin

Proposals for a single muskie zone with one opening day, a lower walleye inland bag limit, and a year-round walleye/sauger season on the St. Croix River are just three of 11 statewide DNR proposed fishing rule changes that will be up for virtual-only citizen voting from noon April 10 through noon April 13.

Youth deer hunt, big game quartering, trapper ed fees up for vote April 10-13 in Wisconsin

Adding two days to the youth deer hunt, changing how hunters are allowed to butcher deer, elk, and bears in the field, and allowing citizens on private land to shoot bears in the act of attacking a domestic animal are three of nine rule changes proposed by the DNR for the virtual-only spring hearing vote that will run from noon April 10 through noon April 13.
