New York programs available for aspiring youth turkey hunters

Across New York, sportsmen’s groups are offering programs to help get young hunters afield with mentors for the youth turkey season that is coming up April 22-23, 2023. (Photo courtesy of Iowa DNR)

Many of these events are part of the state’s Youth Turkey Program designed to introduce youth between the ages of 12 and 15 to the fundamentals of turkey hunting and provide an opportunity to hunt under the guidance of an experienced mentor. New York’s annual youth hunt is April 22-23.
