Bison conservation the focus of Minnesota DNR webinar session

The Minnesota Bison Conservation Herd started with three bison in 1961 at Blue Mounds State Park near Luverne. Today you’ll also find them at Minneopa State Park near Mankato, the Spring Lake Park Reserve in Hastings, and the Minnesota Zoological Garden in Apple Valley. The Minnesota DNR hosted a webinar on March 15 that focused on the state’s bison conservation program. Molly Tranel Nelson, DNR Parks and Trails Division regional resource specialist, offered a Minnesota bison status report along with future goals for the species. Officials say the state herd is now 150, with a goal of about 500.
