A new turkey call might be just what’s needed to get that gobbler to sound off

Oak Duke says gobblers can be moody and sometimes all it takes to get them to sound off is a different sounding call. (Photo by Oak Duke)
I think turkey calls are a lot like guitars. A good guitar player can coax a sweet sound out of any decent guitar. And a good turkey caller knows how to run a call. But there’s a veil of mystery to calling in gobblers that has never lifted. One morning the woods are ringing with gobbles. Still no guarantee we’ll get one to come in. Even lots of answers. Anticipation. The woods are dripping with dew and expectation. Of course the next morning, right back there, first light. Yet when there, the woods are quite as a mouse.
