Further testing conducted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation indicates that a wolf shot mistakenly by a coyote hunter late in 2021 was consuming a wild diet. The test confirms the animal was not raised as a pet by humans and then released into the wild.
The 85-pound canine was killed in Cherry Valley, Otsego County, and Initial tests showed it was a coyote, but further testing indicated it was primarily of wolf origin.
