Mild winter in Pennsylvania good for wildlife after dry summer

Drought conditions in 2022 dried up fields and impacted acorn production in parts of the state, resulting in less food availability for wildlife heading into winter. (Photo by Tom Venesky)

In much of the state, 2022 was awfully dry from July through September. It is a stretch that represents a critical time for wildlife heading into the winter, because it’s a time when vegetation is typically lush, food is plentiful and animals are feeding hard.
