A Cornell University study of white-tailed deer in New York state has shown the animals can carry SARS-CoV-2 variants, a virus that was once widely prevalent in humans but today is no longer found.
It’s unknown whether whitetails can serve as long-term “reservoirs” for the variants; scientists say more time is needed to determine that.
