Southern Minnesota lake deemed a “dead sea” may get a re-boot

DNR officials and others, including Ducks Unlimited biologists and local sportsmen and women, are considering whether to proceed with a restoration project for Boot Lake, located southeast of the famed waterfowl destination, Heron Lake. Boot, plagued by bullheads, common carp, and fathead minnows, currently has little wildlife value, officials say. (Map courtesy of Minnesota DNR)
The Minnesota DNR likely will decide at some point in March whether to move forward with a plan to restore Boot Lake in Jackson County, a shallow lake that some call a “dead sea” for its smelly summer pea-green algal blooms and overall poor water quality.
