The proposal would create special permits for landowners to hunt deer up to a week before the official firearm hunting season starts, if they open at least half of their land to hunters during the regular season.

The attack comes after state wildlife officials announced they recently trapped and killed five mountain lions about 220 miles away in western Colorado after residents reported aggressive behavior by the predators.
Even though the MDC reports that more than 9,300 feral hogs were killed in the state last year – a more than 40 percent jump from the 6,500 killed in 2017 – it’s difficult to gauge whether control efforts are working to reverse the tide.
According to estimates, Washington has a minimum of 122 wolves. But a researcher says it’s possible the population of wolves is closer to 200 animals. And state wolf managers say Washington’s wolf population has grown, on average, 30 percent per year.
