Upper Peninsula Fishing Report – August 14th, 2015


Pickford Area

Walleye fishing remains good in the St Marys River from Raber Bay to Barbeau. The best action has come to those fishing with crawlers and bottom bouncers along the edge of the shipping channel. Muskie and pike are hitting along the outside of Munuscong Bay in 7 feet of water or more.

Drummond Island Area

Walleye fishing has improved around Drummond Island. Anglers fishing with nightcrawler harnesses and stickbaits in 4 to 10 feet of water report good action in Maxton and Scotts bays.

Escanaba Area

Perch fishing has been good throughout Lake Michigan’s Little Bay de Noc. Anglers fishing off the Gladstone fishing pier and at the mouth of the harbor in Escanaba report a good bite on minnows. Pike fishing has been good in the bay, too. Several big fish over 40 inches have been caught. Fair numbers of walleyes have been caught in Big Bay de Noc and at the mouth of the Cedar River. Salmon fishing has been good off the Cedar, too.

Menominee Area

Trout and salmon fishing in Lake Michigan’s Green Bay has been good. Fish have been caught in 40 to 80 feet of water. Bass fishing has been good below the Hattie Street Bridge and the mouth of the Menominee River. A few walleyes have been caught in the river, too.

Bergland Area

Fishing on Lake Gogebic remains  good. Walleye and bass are hitting nightcrawlers and leeches fished in the weeds in 7 to 13 feet of water. Leeches have been the best. Points and edges are producing smallmouths in good numbers, but the fish are holding in pockets. Some nice perch have been caught in the weeds with the walleyes, and in 22 to 28 feet of water. Northern pike have been holding near structure and weed edges.

Iron River Area

Anglers report a good whitefish bite on Ottawa Lake. Muskie fishing has been good on Emily Lake, but most of the fish are running between 35 and 42 inches. Walleye fishing has been good on lakes like Chicagon, Ottawa, and Fortune. Bluegills and crappies also are hitting. Streams are at normal water levels, and brookie fishing has been very good.
