COMMISSIONER MARTIN TO PROVIDE ONE-YEAR PROGRESS REPORT ON
BARNEGAT BAY WORK AND ANNOUNCE LAND PRESERVATION AGREEMENT
TRENTON – On Thursday, Dec. 15 at noon, DEP Commissioner Bob
Martin and staff will provide a one-year update on progress made
under Governor Christie’s Barnegat Bay Comprehensive Restoration
Plan. He will also make an announcement regarding preservation of
land in the bay’s watershed.
The event will take place at the Joseph A. Citta Scout
Reservation in Ocean Township, Ocean County. Governor Christie
launched a 10-point plan for the long-term restoration of the bay
on Dec. 9, 2010.
The 660-square-mile Barnegat Bay watershed encompasses most or
parts of 33 municipalities in Ocean County and four in Monmouth
County. The bay supports aquatic vegetation, shellfish beds, fish
habitats, and waterfowl nesting areas, but is under ecological
stress from deteriorating water quality.
