Joint Meeting of UP Citizens Advisory Councils Planned for March 18 in Marquette
The Eastern and Western Upper Peninsula Citizens Advisory
Councils (CAC) for the Department of Natural Resources and
Environment will hold a joint meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. Eastern on
Thursday, March 18, at the Don H. Bottum University Center in the
Peter White Lounge on the campus of Northern Michigan University.
The lounge is located on the lower level of the University Center,
across from the student bookstore.
The meeting will include a special presentation that will focus
on an overview of treaty rights by Kelley Smith, chief of the DNRE
Fisheries Division, and Dennis Knapp, DNRE Tribal coordinator. The
meeting will also include a discussion of the retro-fitting of the
UP-CAC to reflect the new agency under the transition plan.
The CACs were formed to give U.P. citizens more input into DNRE
regional programs and activities. The councils, in both the Eastern
U.P. and Western U.P., represent a variety of natural resource
interests and help the DNRE identify ways to be more effective
across the region.
CAC meetings are open to the public. If you would like to be
considered as a future CAC member, please fill out the nomination
form found on the DNRE Web site at www.michigan.gov/upcac. For
more information, contact DNRE Upper Peninsula Regional Director
Stacy Welling at 906-228-6561.
