Pierre, S.D. (AP) – State fisheries officials say an abundance
of precipitation this past winter and spring has added water to
many South Dakota lakes, ponds and rivers, creating more demand for
fish stocking.
The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department has been moving
fish from hatcheries and several public-access waters.
In a release, the department says people should not try to stock
fish on their own when a lake refills. Often, the GF&P says,
parasites, viruses and unwanted aquatic vegetation are moved along
with the fish when people other than trained professions attempt
stocking.
