Lincoln, Neb. (AP) – Wildlife officials say results from tests
on white-tailed deer in northeast Nebraska show the deer are free
of bovine tuberculosis.
Officials say the 42 wild deer tested were taken from an area
near a Knox County elk farm where bovine tuberculosis was detected
earlier this year.
In animals, the disease can cause fatigue, weight loss,
low-grade fever and persistent cough.
Biologists with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the
U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services collected
samples from the deer earlier this month. The University of
Nebraska-Lincoln’s Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory tested the
samples
