Breaking News for

Sportsmen Since 1967

Prairie Du Chen Area

With backwater levels somewhat low and water temps hovering in
the 80-degree range, much of the fishing action has moved to the
mouths of the sloughs and channel edges. The bluegill bite has been
very good, with successful anglers using crawlers and focusing
their efforts on channel edges and breaks in 7 feet of water.
Walleye action has been good, with fish up to 10 pounds reported.
Successful methods include live bait worked on wing dams, and
trolled crawler harnesses and crankbaits. Northern pike action has
been good. Largemouth bass fishing has been great, and anglers are
catching “buckets” in slop on surface baits, on weed edges with
spinnerbaits and buzz baits, and on riprap with crankbaits.
Catfishing has been very good and dip baits are favored.
