St. Paul Poachers could have their fish and game licenses seized and face stiffer penalties including having their boat, motor, and trailer confiscated under the state’s new gross overlimits regulations, which go into effect March 1.

The bill allows for a gross misdemeanor penalty when the value of illegally taken game or fish exceeds $1,000. The enhanced penalties apply to small game and waterfowl violators as well as commercial fishing operations. The change also would allow for joint liability when two or more people are involved. St. Paul A new electronic way for outdoor enthusiasts, anywhere in the United States, to renew their registrations for watercraft, all-terrain vehicles, off-highway motorcycles, off-road vehicles and snowmobiles has been launched by the Minnesota DNR.

Customers can renew their registrations by visiting www.dnr.state.mn.us and clicking on Regulations, Licenses and Permits and then Online Licensing. State trail permits, required for snowmobiles with out-of-state registrations, and MTD stickers are also available from the DNR’s telephone sales number at 1-888-665-4236.

Madison, Wis. Wisconsin’s early catch-and-release trout season on the state’s inland waters gets under way March 1. The early C&R trout season runs through April 27 on most waters. Only artificial lures can be used; hooks must be barbless.

Anglers can get help in locating trout waters including newly identified and listed trout waters by checking out the new, more detailed maps in the 2003-2004 Wisconsin Trout Fishing Regulations and Guide, available at DNR service centers and license sale outlets.
