Madison, Wis. Wisconsin’s early catch-and-release trout season on the state’s inland waters gets under way March 1. The early C&R trout season runs through April 27 on most waters. Only artificial lures can be used; hooks must be barbless.

Anglers can get help in locating trout waters including newly identified and listed trout waters by checking out the new, more detailed maps in the 2003-2004 Wisconsin Trout Fishing Regulations and Guide, available at DNR service centers and license sale outlets. They’re also available on the web, at www.dnr.state.wi.us.
