Hugo, Minn. Wild Wings of Oneka, located in Hugo, will be the host site for the first Minnesota Outdoor Heritage Alliance sporting clays competition and fund-raiser on Feb. 15.

Shooters will compete for trophies and prizes, as well as raise money for MOHA to continue its work with the Outdoor Legislative Caucus at the Capitol, and with its youth outdoor heritage education programs, according to Jeff Hughes, Wild Wings owner. Fergus Falls, Minn. After working out of rented quarters on Fir Ave. East in Fergus Falls for more than 25 years, staff from the Minnesota DNR will have a new area headquarters in the Fergus Falls industrial park by the spring of 2003.

A former warehouse in the city’s industrial park and acreage next to it were purchased for $1.2 million. Remodeling and new construction will cost another $2 million. The funding comes from bonding money authorized by the state Legislature during the 2000 session. The new facility will accommodate about 30 full-time and 10 seasonal DNR workers

Feb. 9: Lake Winnebago sturgeon spearing season opens. There are several new rules this year, including shortened spearing hours. Check regulations. The season is set to run through Feb. 25, but could close earlier if quotas are reached.

Minneapolis The 30th Annual Boat Show comes to the Minneapolis Convention Center, Jan. 23-27.

The Boat Show is the Midwest’s premier boating and marine products show. Visitors also can see boating’s past as there also will be an antique and classic boats collection at the show. Show hours are Wednesday, 5-10 p.m., Thursday and Friday, noon to 10 p.m., Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m.

LAKE MILLE LACS East – The early morning and evening hours continue to be the best bet for walleyes. Work the deeper rock, gravel, and mud for the most consistent low-light bite. Perch reports are still best close to shore in 16 to 18 feet of water. The key is to stay on the move.
