Perhaps sportsmen and legislators should consider the ruffed grouse as the state game bird instead.

State Assembly approves exemptions; measure moves on to Senate.

The measure would remove woodchucks from the state’s protected species list and establish a hunting season for them from the beginning of July through the end of December with no bag limits.

Located in Lake Michigan, off the tip of Wisconsin’s Door Peninsula, this essential stopover habitat for birds and other migratory species consists of five islands and is framed by two states — Wisconsin and Michigan.

On Michigan-Wisconsin boundary waters, ice shanties must be removed by midnight Wednesday, March 15. And regardless of removal date, shanties must be pulled as soon as the ice is unable to safely support them.

The sight of ferries in February offers clear-eyed evidence of climate change in the Upper Midwest.

The state has a growing elk population and is home to nearly 10,000 RMEF members in 24 chapters.
