The 8- by 9-point bull has been submitted for disease testing, and results are pending.
The grants benefit 42,586 acres across Albany, Big Horn, Campbell, Carbon, Converse, Fremont, Johnson, Hot Springs, Lincoln, Park, Sheridan, Sublette, Sweetwater, Teton and Washakie Counties. There is also one project of statewide benefit.
Often organized by a handful of dedicated volunteers, these banquets raise money not only for the organization itself, but often to support funding for local programs and projects.
Seventy-eight contestants, the most to take part since 2005, competed in six divisions.
Award is given annually to the organization or entity that best exemplifies excellence in conservation and wildlife and land stewardship.
The Montana-based elk foundation identified the land as a priority because it lies between elk summer and winter ranges.
Suit seeks to eliminate state wildlife management of wolves in the state.
The state has a growing elk population and is home to nearly 10,000 RMEF members in 24 chapters.
