Things certainly cooled down this last week and the rain moved in. Still, plenty of bites, but a slightly different strategy and some easy tips we sometimes forget for early season.
Yes, it’s very early, but anglers are starting to catch crappies and panfish from boats and from shore.
Fishing is mostly picking up in these regions of the state.
With a healthy walleye population, nice panfish, good numbers of largemouth bass, and a pike population that has improved in size structure in recent years, Minnie Belle is one of the county’s destination fishing lakes.
It’s early, but anglers are starting to catch crappies and sunfish in boats and from shore.
As waters warm, crappie fishing heats up across the state. Good fishing for crappies has already been reported at a number of lakes.
It’s time to start looking for panfish in those traditional, spring locations. And don’t forget about border water, pre-spawn walleye fishing on lakes and rivers as well.
A 2019 DNR survey produced good numbers of eating-size walleyes that averaged 15 inches in length. That seems to be the story of Wolf: a strong resident population of keepers.
Here’s why you can lean on tungsten for open-water panfish during certain situations. Crappies, bluegill, tungsten jigs … there are plenty of good combos to make it happen.
