Most fishing activity is taking place in 25 to 31 feet of water. The most productive setup continues to be a jigging line paired with a deadstick.

Some big walleyes were caught this week, including a 32.5-inch giant. In addition to walleyes and saugers, anglers are catching jumbo perch, eelpout, northern pike, tullibees, and an occasional sturgeon while targeting walleyes.

Most fish are being caught in 23 to 28 feet of water.

Ice fishing along the South Shore is off to an excellent start.

Early-ice initial reports are good, with walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch in the mix.

From Lake of the Woods to the Rainy River to the Northwest Angle, here’s what ice-fishing possibilities are looking like.

Rainy River still has rare late-season open water, with excellent walleye fishing using a jig and minnow around edges, current breaks, and holes.

The best action remains in 15-25 feet of water. The water temperature has dropped to 42 degrees, and the fish are active.
